On 20 January 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Israel held a thematic exchange event for Israeli think tanks and technology experts, introducing and discussing the Global Governance Initiative, with a particular focus on the governance of artificial intelligence. Ambassador Xiao Junzheng attended the event and delivered a speech.

Starting from the challenges facing global governance, Ambassador Xiao elaborated on the significance of the Global Governance Initiative, noting that against the backdrop of a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, the international community is in urgent need of improving governance systems, strengthening coordination and cooperation, and promoting global governance toward a more just and equitable direction. Ambassador Xiao outlined China’s basic positions and principles on AI governance, emphasizing a people-centered approach, promoting the development of technology for the good, balancing development and security, opposing technological monopolies and abuse, and supporting the United Nations in playing a central platform role in issues related to the development, security, and governance of artificial intelligence. He also noted that China and Israel need to enhance dialogue on concepts and pragmatic cooperation on AI governance.
Dr. Song Haitao, President of the Shanghai Artificial Intelligence Research Institute, participated and delivered remarks via video link. Representatives from Israeli research institutions and think tanks, including the Israel Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the Weizmann Institute of Science, the SIGNAL Group, and the Institute for Structural Reforms, took part in the exchange. Participants spoke highly of the Global Governance Initiative, and engaged in in-depth discussions on issues such as AI security, ethics, and governance.
