On 20 May 2026, Chinese Ambassador to Israel Xiao Junzheng gave an exclusive interview to Israel Hayom, taking questions on the China-U.S. summit, the Taiwan question, the China-Israel relationship, and the regional situation.

Ambassador Xiao emphasized that in the China-U.S. summit, the two heads of state agreed on a new vision of building a constructive China-U.S. relationship of strategic stability, providing strategic guidance for bilateral relations over the next three years and beyond. “Constructive strategic stability” means positive stability with cooperation as the mainstay, healthy stability with competition within proper limits, constant stability with manageable differences, and lasting stability with expectable peace. This summit will have a significant and far-reaching impact on the evolving international landscape.

Ambassador Xiao pointed out that the Taiwan question is at the core of China’s core interests. The one-China principle is a well-recognized norm in international relations, a prevailing consensus in the international community and the political foundation for China to establish and grow its relations with other countries including Israel. China attaches great importance to its relations with Israel, and hopes that Israel will work with us in the same direction to promote continuous and stable development of the China-Israel innovative comprehensive partnership.

Regarding the Middle East situation, Ambassador Xiao noted that the use of force cannot solve problems, and dialogue is the only right choice. Negotiation may not produce immediate results, but now that the door of dialogue has been opened, it should not be closed again. China has been working to promote peace talks, and will continue to play its role for an early end to the conflict and restoration of peace in the Middle East.
