Leading US financier David Rockefeller said Friday
in Lhasa that what impressed him most during his trip to
Tibet is that the people of Tibet are totally free to act
according to their own will.
Rockefeller,
former chairman of the board of directors of the Chase
Manhattan Bank, made the remark during a meeting with Xu
Mingyang, executive vice-chairman of the Tibet Autonomous
Region, after he visited several places in this regional
capital over the past two days.
Rockefeller said he has seen the great
progress scored in Tibet over the past 50 years following
its peaceful liberation. The 86- year-old financier said he
has been interested in Tibet all his life, and now his dream
has finally come true.
He said the
people of Tibet have built a beautiful city out of nothing.
After visiting the Tibet Museum, he said he knows more about
the autonomous region and its relationship with the Central
Government of China.
Over the past two
days, he has visited the Potala Palace, and marveled at its
splendor. He said the palace reincarnates the greatness of
the Chinese people of all nationalities, who have overcome
so many difficulties both at home and abroad.
Xu Mingyang said he sincerely hoped
that Rockefeller would tell the US people the truth about
Tibet and, increase the friendship and understanding between
the Chinese and the US peoples.
