On February 2, 2018, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) held the 11th promotion event presenting Chinese provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities to the world at the Blue Hall of the Ministry with the theme of China in the New Era: Beautiful New Hainan, Shared New Opportunities. Foreign Minister Wang Yi addressed the event. Secretary of Hainan Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Liu Cigui delivered a speech and Governor of the People's Government of Hainan Province Shen Xiaoming gave the presentation. Over 500 people attended the event, including Secretary of the CPC Committee of MFA Zhang Yesui, diplomatic envoys from over 160 countries, representatives from international organizations in China as well as from industrial and commercial sectors, Chinese and foreign experts, scholars, and journalists.

Wang Yi expressed that this is the first global promotion event held by the MFA in 2018. General Secretary Xi Jinping announced at the 19th CPC National Congress that socialism with Chinese characteristics has entered a new era. From now on, we will use China in the New Era as the theme of the promotion events. We will use more practical, innovative, richer and more colorful contents and forms to better serve the local development and better combine China's new round of development with the common development of the world.

Wang Yi stated that 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening up and it is also the 30th anniversary of Hainan's status as a province and a special economic zone. The reform and opening up profoundly changes not only China but also the world. Particularly in the past five years, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as its core, China has continuously speeded up, made multi-point breakthroughs and achieved in-depth progress in comprehensively deepening reforms, which lays a solid foundation for China's future development in a sustained, sound and stable manner. China will neither stop its steps to comprehensively deepen reforms nor close the door of opening wider to the world. After ushering in a new era, China will continuously roll out measures for reform and opening up in more areas with greater efforts, and will co-build the "Belt and Road" with various countries to speed up the common development and bring benefits to people of various countries. From this year, China will hold China International Import Expo. This is another pioneering undertaking of China to open wider to the outside world, fully demonstrating China's steadfast resolution to dedicate to the construction of an open world economy.

Wang Yi expressed that Hainan is the biggest special economic zone in China and also the only provincial special economic zone. Over the past 30 years, carrying forward the pioneering spirit of the special economic zone, people of Hainan have built the province into a first-class international tourism island, tropical agricultural base and medical tourism pilot zone. The annual Boao Forum for Asia serves as an attracting business card of Hainan, a famous brand of the country and a platform for Asia and China to interact with the world. This spring, various parties will again gather at Boao and speak in one voice to propose the scheme of Asia centering on the theme of An Open and Innovative Asia for a World of Greater Prosperity. It is believed that Hainan in the new era will welcome guests and friends from all over the world to discuss the strategy of development together and jointly share the fruits of prosperity with a more open mind.

Liu Cigui noted that over the past 30 years since the establishment of Hainan's status as a province and a special economic zone, especially over the last five years, Hainan has witnessed earth-shaking changes and held a more important strategic position in the overall situation of national reform and opening up. The 19th CPC National Congress has offered a solid support for Hainan to deepen exchanges and cooperation with other countries. Guided by Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, Hainan will give full play to its three advantages of ecological environment, special economic zone and international tourism island. Hainan will promote comprehensive reform and opening up with new development concept and vigorously improve the level of social governance system and modernization of governance capacity. In addition, Hainan will protect the ecological environment with the strictest regulations and greatly improve the level education, healthcare, social security as well as the income of urban and rural residents, in a bid to become an important window to showcase China's efforts to build a community with a shared future for mankind and to realize the Chinese Dream of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Shen Xiaoming promoted Hainan from several aspects such as natural scenery, cultural diversification, advantages in opening-up, innovative development as well as business environment and welcomed people from all walks of life both at home and abroad to visit Hainan for sightseeing and business cooperation. 

Russian Ambassador to China Andrei Denisov, Philippine Ambassador to China Jose Santiago Sta. Romana and Croatian Ambassador to China Nebojsa Koharovic delivered speeches successively to congratulate Hainan on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of its status as a province and a special economic zone. They appreciated the historical achievements made by Hainan in economic development, social progress, national harmony and environmental protection, fully recognized the progress of cooperation between their countries and Hainan in various fields and expected to further tap the potential for cooperation with Hainan to strengthen friendly exchanges.

The envoys visited the exhibition showcasing Hainan's local features and carried out in-depth exchanges with leaders of Hainan province.
