Ambassador Gao Yanping Attends Celebration of Sino-Judaic Friendship

On May 20th, Ambassador Gao Yanping attended Celebration of Sino-Judaic Friendship with the theme of “A Tribute to the People of China for Saving 22,000 Jews in Shanghai” upon the invitation of Prof. Moshe Kaveh, president of Bar-Ilan University, and delivered a speech at the ceremony. Counselor Han Jun and Mr. Xue Hualing, Head of the Education Section of the Chinese Embassy, Prof. Yaffa Zilbershats, vice president of Bar-Ilan University were also present together with Israeli people from all walks of life and Chinese students in Israel, totaling about 100 people.

Ambassador Gao points out that in the two decades following the establishment of diplomatic relations, friendly cooperation between China and Israel enjoyed stable growth, bearing fruitful achievements in many fields like economy, education, and science and technology. Bar’Ilan University made its own contribution to the development of bilateral relations. A case in point is that it together with the Ministry of Education of China signed and implemented an MOU last year to train advanced talents. The friendship between Chinese and Jewish people could trace back a thousand years. During WWII, the Chinese people extended their helping hands to the Jews refugees escaped from the Nazi massacre. She firmly believes that China-Israel relations will embrace a brighter future with joint efforts of the two nations.

President Kaveh told the audience how his family made a narrow escape from the Nazi massacre, and expressed sincere gratitude to the selfless help Chinese, especially the Shanghai people, provided to the Jewish in bad emergency. The Sino-Judaic friendship forged during WWII solidly underlies China-Israel relations. Bar’Ilan University has been promoting bilateral relations for years, and it had frequent friendly exchange and cooperation with China in terms of talent training and cooperation in science and technology. It will make further contribution to the friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Gao also unveiled a plaque memorizing Sino-Judaic friendship with president Kaveh and vice president Zilbershats.
